I was asked to write a song for a friend who had lost her mother. It wasn't long before I realized, to my shock and horror, that I was writing about my own poor mother. As the chemo, without reason or mercy, WRETCHEDLY MURDERED HER, she died hard, she died slow, but she died bravely and she died well. I have never been prouder of anyone in my life. This is the hardest song that I've ever written and recorded. Good travels Ma. Good travels...

I Wasn’t Ready (Lyrics)
Drew Stevyns
Mama, can you hear me?
Are you still there?
Or have you moved along?
I love and miss you dearly, but the taker, even takes the strong.
Mama, I’m exhausted, even though you had to do all the work.
Watching, isn’t easy, waiting helpless, as the candle burns down...
Everyone stuck down here goes through it, yeah it’s something we all gotta do.
No one born gets to live forever, it’s true, but I wasn’t ready.
Mama, what’s it like there?
Are you settled? Have you lost your cares?
Life is, trudging forward, through this circus, of immense despair.
You’re never ready, and there is no preparing for the bill that’s gonna come due.
Everyone here gotta pay the waiter, it’s true, but I wasn’t ready.
Everyone stuck down here goes through it, yeah it’s something we all gotta do.
No one born gets to live forever, it’s true
All those years trying not to think about it, pushing it out of my mind.
I turned around and blinked and the moment had arrived, BUT I WASN’T READY!
No, I wasn’t ready
Lower you’re down
Lower you’re down
Lower you’re down (YOU WERE SO BRAVE...)
Lower you’re down
Lower you’re down
Lower you’re down (I wasn’t ready)
Lower you’re down
Lower you’re down
Lower you’re down. . .
